Pilot Proficiency Testing Program

RTI pilot proficiency testing (PT) program for laboratories that provide drug checking services
RTI International is piloting a PT program for laboratories that provide drug checking services. As part of this program RTI will send each participating laboratory one kit containing 8 samples for testing. Samples will contain controlled and/or non-controlled substances at relevant purities. Laboratories will report results electronically via an online submission form. Individual results will not be shared with anyone beyond PT program staff and the submitting laboratory. Aggregate results will be sent to all laboratories for the purpose of performance evaluation.
The fee for participating in the pilot PT is $50 to cover administrative costs and shipping. Laboratories that are interested in participating should fill out the Registration Form. Once registered, laboratories will be given further instructions on DEA paperwork for sample shipping, fee payment, and submitting and receiving results.
This pilot program is limited to 20 laboratories. Registration must be complete by September 2, 2025, and fees are due to RTI by September 17. Samples will be sent in late September, and results are due in late October.
Eligibility:
- Laboratories must have a valid DEA registration to receive controlled substances
- Laboratories must be in the United States
- Laboratories must be providing, working toward providing, or supporting drug checking services
