Law enforcement leaders who are considering adopting AI police report-writing software may be inundated with marketing claims about how these tools can save time and increase efficiency across their agency. In response, researchers have collected real data about the capabilities of AI report writing in the field, and have identified important considerations for using AI tools in a way that is transparent and vigilant. Guest Biography
Anthony Berghammer is a research data scientist at RTI International, who leverages data science for social good. He combines expertise in machine learning, natural language processing, and simulation modeling to deliver impactful results in various fields, including public health and justice. Anthony has supported research and development endeavors that emphasize the integration and effective utilization of large language models (LLMs) into ongoing projects across diverse research initiatives. Before joining RTI, Anthony served as a data science consultant at Ernst & Young and a decision science analyst at USAA. At USAA, he focused on crafting innovative text analytics solutions for virtual agents and played a crucial role in sales practice error detection.
Ian T. Adams is a leading scholar of policing. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina, with applied research focuses on the practical concerns of police practitioners, with a specific interest in technology, policy, behavior, and use-of-force in law enforcement. Dr. Adams is the co-founder of the Police Accountability and Policy Evaluation Research (PAPER) Lab, and senior faculty of the Governance & Responsible AI Laboratory (GRAIL). Dr. Adams is an elected member of the Council on Criminal Justice where he serves on Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. He is committed to the goal of marrying police practice and high-quality scientific evidence, an aim that is supported by his appointment as a 2023 National Institute of Justice LEADS Academic.
Christian Quinn completed a 24-year law enforcement career in 2021, having served as the Deputy Chief of Cyber & Forensics for the Fairfax County Virginia Police Department. He was responsible for the implementation and oversight of numerous key technical initiatives.
Christian holds a Master of Forensic Sciences Degree from The George Washington University and a Professional Certificate in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a 2018 graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Christian currently serves as the Managing Principal of Fulcrum Innovation LLC, a consulting practice focused on the intersection of public sector technology and associated policy and business issues. He has been instrumental in preserving public safety’s access to technology solutions that are critically needed to keep communities safe while safeguarding equitable outcomes.
Christian has been a featured speaker throughout the U.S. and internationally, advising public safety and the industry partners who serve them on key policy and product issues.
He remains passionate about the ethical adoption of technology for the betterment of all people.
